Top 3 Football Injuries

posted on: January 11th, 2012
Our football First Aid supplies are exceptionally tailored to make sure you’re prepared on the pitch. We know a clear idea of potential hazards and injuries can be very beneficial, particularly to the football newbie or sports First Aid student.

Most football injuries affect the lower part of the body – the pelvis, groin, hip, thigh, knee, calf, ankle and foot. Injuries are predominantly the result of impacts and collisions with other players, the ground or an unlucky spectator! It’s estimated around one in three football injuries are RSIs and develop over time.

1. Hamstring Strain
This type of injury can account for around 40% of football injuries. It’s commonly caused by overexertion when sprinting. The hamstring is pulled beyond its limit and tears. Rest, ice compression and elevation are common pitch-side treatments. Our instant cold packs are ideal for hamstring strain treatment.

2. Sprained Ankle
Whilst hamstring strains aren’t something the layman usually experiences, we’ve all felt the tug and burning pain of a sprained ankle. For the footballer, the most common sprain happens when the foot is twisted inwards. Sports supports can be used to protect the ankle as an immediate treatment.

3. Knee Cartilage Tear
There are two cartilage crescents inside the knee. These crescents serve as a kind of gliding medium between the knee and thigh bone. If a twist occurs, a crescent can become trapped between the two bones. Minor tears can cause a little pain but usually heal. Major tears require physiotherapy and sometimes surgery.
